· My research interests at Berkeley included: theoretical linguistic study of English, German, and Dutch, with a focus on phonetics and phonology, and historical linguistics, focusing on Proto-Germanic, Old English, Old Saxon, Old High German, Old Low Franconian, and Gothic.
· Paper topics included a syntactical investigation of the ordering of Time, Manner, and Place adverbials in the German “middle field”; phonological analysis of Kölsch, the dialect of Cologne, Germany; socio-linguistic study of the online use of formal and informal address in German; and a review of statistical techniques used to quantify historical change in German.
· My research at Penn State focused on human-computer interaction. My thesis, entitled Users’ Mental Models of Display-based Word Processors, focused on the concept of mental models in cognitive psychology and their use in understanding how users approach word processors with graphical interfaces.
